Beautiful, golden autumn is the perfect time of year for mountain hiking. There are far fewer hikers on the trails, the unbearable heat doesn't bother you and nature only encourages you to go hiking. For a successful and safe autumn mountain hike, it is important to prepare well. As well as the right clothing and equipment, you need to prepare the right provisions. What to take with you to the mountains to be nutritious and provide the energy you need?

A TRIP TO THE MOUNTAINS - THE MOST IMPORTANT RULES

When planning an autumn walk on the trails, there are a few important rules to bear in mind. First and foremost, let's inform someone close to us (or the host of the accommodation from which we are setting off) of the planned hiking route. In addition, let's have a charged GPS phone with us, as well as ID and money. In the mountains you will also need:

  • comfortable, ankle-length trekking boots - although stories abound of hikers setting off on the trail in flip-flops or stilettos, no one who is serious about the matter would wear such footwear. Protectors (stuptuts) to protect the upper part of the boots and the calf from the rain will also come in handy with the boots;
  • appropriate clothing - it is a good idea to stock up on technical clothing. All garments should wick moisture to the outside and outerwear should not get wet;
  • a handy first-aid kit with essential medicines and disinfectants and dressings;
  • pocket knife, headlamp, trekking poles, sunglasses, UV filter cream, NRC foil and a whistle - with the right equipment, our trip to the mountains will be more enjoyable and definitely safer.

WHAT MEAL WORKS IN THE MOUNTAINS?

In addition to the necessary equipment, suitable meals should also be taken into the mountains. Food should be nutritious and high-energy and take up very little space. The following should be packed in your rucksack: dark chocolate, energy bars, tinned food, nutritious soup or stew and warm, sweet tea with lemon. You can also take freeze-dried food. We should take regular meal breaks to prevent our bodies from becoming too weak.

WHAT TO TAKE FOOD WITH YOU TO THE MOUNTAINS?

In order to ensure that warm food does not get cold too quickly, we should get containers that ensure that the food stays at a constant temperature for a long time. The solution that immediately springs to mind is thermos. It is worth investing in one that will actually keep the temperature effectively, is easy to transport and store, and at the same time - nice and aesthetically pleasing.
